Help for insomnia & sleep problems
A client recently described insomnia to me as ‘a real affliction’. There’s no doubt that if your sleep is disrupted in any way, you can end up feeling irritable, fuzzy-headed and as if you’re only operating at 10% of your capacity, particularly if it goes on for any length of time.
If you’re fed up of feeling tired all the time and you worry about how it’s affecting not just you, but your family, and your ability to fulfil your responsibilities, whether that’s at work, at home or in the church, but you don’t want to become reliant on sleeping pills, then the Christian Therapy ‘Sleep Better’ programme can help.
If you long to wake up feeling energised and to get out of bed with a spring in your step after a refreshing, restorative night’s sleep, scroll down for details of the ‘Sleep Better’ programme.
Is this your experience of insomnia?
Sleep problems take different forms, but they are all equally draining.
- You might lie awake for ages while you try to get to sleep, with your mind still buzzing from the day.
- You might wake up in the middle of the night and then not be able to get back to sleep, because of the thoughts racing through your mind.
- You might wake up too early and stay awake, even though you feel you have not slept long enough.
Maybe you experience all of these. Whatever kind of sleep problems you have, the end result is dragging yourself out of bed in the morning, feeling groggy and weary.
As time goes by, you begin to dread going to bed and you worry that you will never be able to have a refreshing night’s sleep. Perhaps you wonder whether you will ever really experience the ‘life in all its fullness’ that Jesus says we can have.
You might have tried lots of different remedies, but none have helped much
Maybe you have spent a lot of money on over-the-counter pills, or on teas, herbs and special pillows. You might have resorted to certain cold medicines to try to get to sleep at bedtime. You may have gone to the doctor for sleeping pills, but found they only work for a time and you’re rightly wary of taking stronger and stronger medication.
Perhaps you are now resigned to living with the problem – you think “I’m an insomniac, that’s just the way I am”.
The good news is that insomnia is not something you have to put up with and just learn to live with
Sleep is such an important part of our health and wellbeing, both physically and mentally. In sleep, the body heals itself and the mind regains its sense of perspective. Lack of sleep can weaken the immune system, making you more susceptible to illness.
Constant tiredness affects our ability to concentrate, making it difficult to think clearly at work and to have a full and active life at home. Insomnia is definitely not part of God’s plan for our lives.
How can you overcome insomnia?
The more you worry about not sleeping and get anxious that your work, your health and your relationships will suffer, the more you will have problems sleeping. It really is a vicious circle.
To break that cycle, you need to restore your confidence in your ability to fall asleep naturally and easily. Learning what will help to prepare your body and mind for sleep and to establish good sleep habits will give you the reassurance that you need. This is what the Christian Therapy ‘Sleep Better’ programme provides.
The Christian Therapy ‘Sleep Better’ programme
The Christian Therapy ‘Sleep Better’ programme is a six-step programme bringing together proven approaches to dealing with sleepless nights.
You will learn how to prepare your body and mind for sleep, so that you approach bedtime with a calm and settled mind, ready to drift off comfortably to sleep and stay in that deep, restorative sleep that you long for.
The ‘Sleep Better’ programme will help you to:
- make sure you have practical things in place to help you sleep better (it’s surprising how many people overlook simple things that can really make a difference)
- regain your confidence in your ability to fall asleep easily and naturally
- learn effective relaxation and other sleep-inducing techniques that will help you to drift off to sleep calmly and comfortably
- address any underlying worries, stress and anxiety that are keeping you awake
The programme also includes written and audio resources to give you additional support and reinforce what is covered in sessions.
Here’s what past clients have said:
‘Thanks to the sessions and recordings, I am pleased to report that I have enjoyed longer sleeps and a greater sense of calm. In spite of some torrid meetings recently, I managed to get enough sleep to help me deal with the challenges. I feel you have given me all the tools I need to address my sleeping problems.’
‘I was quite sceptical about hypnotherapy before I first met with Anne, but found it a really positive experience. It helped me to relax, put issues from my past behind me, and improved the insomnia that I had suffered from for years. I would definitely recommend having sessions with Anne.’
